The Divided States of America: Witness No.1

Sunday June 22 at 6:30pm

During Covid, a liberal woman unknowingly falls for a white supremacist, but after witnessing him rioting the Capitol on tv on January 6th, 2021, she must identify him to the FBI or become his next target.

I wrote the one-act play, The Divided States of America: Witness No.1 as Covid-19 struck the world, and the apparent political divide as a result of Trump's presidency and rise to power.
The Divided States of America: Witness No.1 bravely examines two polar opposite points of view and culminates with the true shocking ending when a woman must decide between her life or the safety of America. Also reading: Mark Chandler Bailey and Jeff Kishner.

Short Synopsis:
As Covid ravages the nation, an unlikely romance blooms. Lady, a Liberal and Dicky, a Conservative of sorts, fall in love. As each holiday unfolds it becomes evident to Lady that Dicky is not just a Conservative thinker, but a self-professed far right-winger.

For Lady, an essential worker, the holidays have always been about work and devoid of celebration. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are no different as her holidays are sullied by heated conversations that lead to Dicky’s verbal or physical abuse.

Dicky’s intense passion for the neo-fascist movement find him a key participator in the Capitol riots on January 6th. When Lady sees him on TV she wrestles to identify him to the FBI. Ultimately, she comes forward as the first female witness in the US history to turn in her insurrectionist boyfriend, and for her safety she is placed in a witness protection program, and Dicky never sees Lady again.

Although, Dicky is sent to prison and given a two year prison sentence, he only serves nine months of his sentence as he (like many insurrectionists), was pardoned by Donald J. Trump.
